Flash Movie Gets Neighbors 2 Star Kiersey Clemons as Iris West
Candice Patton has been killing it as Iris West on The CW's The Flash TV show for the past two years. But as she prepares for the Flashpoint universe in Season 3, DC Films and Warner Bros. is preparing to introduce a completely different Iris West to the DC multiverse, with another actress taking on that role. While the studio was looking at a number of different leading ladies for this character, one very exciting up and comer has come aboard.
Kiersey Clemons will play Iris West, Barry Allen's love interest, in the big screen adaptation of the popular DC Comics superhero The Flash. The actress has officially signed on, and will star opposite Ezra Miller, who was revealed for the first time in his full Flash costume in the new Justice League trailer that debuted over the weekend at Comic-Con. Variety announced earlier in the month that Clemons was the top choice to take the part. Also rumored to be up for the role were Rita Ora and Lucy Boynton.
Iris West is being portrayed in The Flash movie as a 'tough-as-nails' journalist who befriends Barry Allen, the Flash's alter ego. Though Justice League is in production right now in England, it isn't known if this version of Iris West will be introduced in that movie first. There are no reports of Kiersey Clemons being spotted on set.
Kiersey Clemons first worked with The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa on his hit indie comedy Dope, playing a young lesbian coming-of-age in high school who also happens to be a drummer. The Flash was originally set to mark the directorial debut of Seth Grahame-Smith, but the author of Pride, Prejudice and Zombies dropped out sighting 'creative differences'. Famuyiwa stepped in as a last minute replacement.
Even with the changing of directors coming late in the game, it is said that The Flash will still meet its planned start date. Production will kick off before the end of the year, shortly after Ezra Miller wraps up his role in Justice League.
While Seth Grahame-Smith bailed on the project as a director, the studio is keeping his most recent version of the script locked in place. The story came from a treatment written by Jump Street directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Along with Dope, you may recognize Clemons's as Chloe Moretz's sorority sister from Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Before she heads to The Flash set, she will shoot the Sony remake Flatliners, playing one of the movie's young leads in an ensemble cast led by Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev and original returning star Kiefer Sutherland.
