Based on the bestselling novel by master storyteller Nicholas Sparks, THE LONGEST RIDE centers on the star-crossed love affair between Luke, a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback, and Sophia, a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City's art world. As conflicting paths and ideals test their relationship, Sophia and Luke make an unexpected and fateful connection with Ira, whose memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple. Spanning generations and two intertwining love stories, THE LONGEST RIDE explores the challenges and infinite rewards of enduring love.
The film takes place circa 2007, yet characters use smart-phones that obviously came out several years later.
When Sofia puts on Luke's hat at the rodeo, she puts it on backwards. You can tell by the flatness of the brim. At the bar, the hat changes location on her head frequently.
When not wearing his hat, Luke consistently puts his hat down with the brim side down. It's a known fact that cowboys put their hats crown side down. This keeps the brim from flattening out.
When Sophia asks Ira to eat something then she will read letters to him in the hospital, he picks the bowl, the spoon is inside the bowl. In the other angle, Ira picks the spoon from the table separately.
Signage during Luke's last bull ride shows he is in Nashville, TN. However after his ride he shows up at the art auction in Winston-Salem, NC. He is still wearing his gear despite what would be a long drive.
When not wearing his hat, Luke consistently puts his hat down with the brim side down. It's more common for cowboys put their hats crown side down. This keeps the brim from flattening out.
When Daniel McDonald's widow gives Ira the painting Daniel did of Ruth, there is a picture of Ira and Ruth with a handwritten note on the back, written by Daniel. The handwriting is identical to the handwriting on the postcard Howie Sanders sends to Luke,

In the scene where Sophia leaves the museum to get in Luke's truck, Luke is not wearing a seatbelt. After their kiss & discussion of how the museum & ranch are great, the seatbelt is on with no movement made to put it on.
